this record was written with the intention of conveying classic aspects of house music. track names such as “paradise garage”, “the warehouse” and “zanzibar club” come from monumental clubs that helped shape the history of house. it s true roots in chicago (the warehouse), to new york city (paradise garage) and new jersey (zanzibar club). this 12 features an heavy low end bass line surrounded by a fuzzy acid, brisk and grubby house beat, lush chords deliberately sitting alongside with crispy clear high end vocals. it s about respecting a legacy, the foundation.

coordinated ep presents two tracks relating to two different spots, so two different atmospheres. whereas 51°54 01.6-n 4°28-05.0-e corresponds with the maastunel in rotterdam that connects the banks of the nieuwe maas, 51°54 33.0-n 4°29-13.7-e matches the erasmusbrug (erasmus bridge), a combinedcable-stayed and bascule bridge in the center of rotterdam connecting the north and the south parts of the city. whereas the a-side presents a techno and trippy side, the b-side reveals a more atmospheric and percussive one. in summary, both tracks are quite linear, a linearity that hypnotises and sucks the listener up till bringing him in a trance that makes him feeling in another dimension.

andreas gehm is known for his fierce, unapologetic acid style. but the cologne man does have a more mellow side, a smoother side, and that s what this three tracker is. of course, smooth gehm still has some rough edges. -yellow flowers- combines thick pads, skittering beats, warming samples and frigid bars in an intoxicating brew. malice and menace rear their ashen faces for the evil machinations of -late at night-, muffled vocals and sharpened snares glinting in the streetlights. safety arrives in the form of the aptly titled -less violence.- rhythms are still rough edged, melodies still have an underhanded element. yet there is a subdued humanity in the sweetened strings, emotion coming to a head as the needle runs out.

the music has come into my life when i was about 9 years old, thanks to one of my sisters tape with songs by bob marley and the wailers. so i switched from reggae to dub, from dub to jazz, from jazz to radical improvisation in a moment.now i m 33, and after producing pretty much any kind of music, i want to put together what i still like of dub music with that of the south of europe, which is the place where i grew up, melting everything together with vintage equipments and working with modern machines at the same time. playing and producing this music has been therapeutic for my head. making all this known is for me like seeding again the love for music without any distinction. andrea gabriele 1981 - 2015

in 2007, renowned french producer julien jabre tracked down the american gospel singer phyliss mckoy joubert on myspace. joubert was already a cult figure for house aficionados thanks to -stand on the word-, a song she wrote and performed with her -celestial choir- in 1982 that became a staple of the club scene in new york. it resurfaced as a mysterious bootleg in 2000. julien, who d fallen in love with the song, was eager to remix and officialy rerelease it. when he finally reached out to phyliss, she explained the multitrack tape had been lost. the only thing to do was rerecording it-along with 10 other tracks. today on french label elias, julien and the joubert singers are releasing -stand on the word- in its original and unique 1982 version (mistakenly named after larry levan) and 3 brand new mixes including a fresh dimitri from paris remix. that s how the good lord works!

the contemporaly house tracks which combine his established heavy groove, smoothness & beautiful essence! -secret floor 002- misterious, raw feeling & the roop of vocal sample are intertwined together to be miraculous sounds-saturday night- melodious and uplifting house track-o-nature- unique sound quality made by mpc & the trumpet sample greatly melt together -sky lounge- slow down...dope track with a spice of japanese sample blackoly profile:dj, beatmaker, and sound producer in tokyo, japan. born in 1981, his parents taught him to play in a forest and make what he wants to play by himself. started his dj carrer when he was 19.the first track he played was -bucktown- by smif-n-wessun. in the ensuing year he started making tracks under the name of dj shibaki. kept releasing his own tracks by casset tapes and cd-r and released -document-(12-) in 2006. after that he released mix cd -abstract- and -gravity-, and he has done around 100 of play in a year with his style of going back and forth freely among various sounds evolving abstract, breakbeats and hiphop.in 2009 he played together with dday one, dorian concept without knowing who they are. when he played together with dj kensei, he got a meaningfull comment -do you always do such a mix?- in 2010 he became immersed in creating tracks with mpc2000xl which was not not used for a long time, and started doing dj & live only with his own tracks by using cd-r & kaoss pad. thereafter he started making house tracks under the name of blackoly influenced by house djs & dancers whom he has played with since 2000s. the various music in his background & the dancer s excitement on the floor like -house- atmosphere greatly melted together and it led to build his unique sounds. in 2013 he released -dirty channel-(12-), in 2014 -dr.circus-(cd), and his work continues to this time.

editor s kutz is here, right on summertime wearing it s volume 8 swimsuit, while the label boss seems to be on vacation too, since this is the first record of the series with no -vinyladdicted- track included. a side begins with the silver rider and his blue-sky edit on an odyssey s hit, giving to it a more uptempo and danceable character, while the italian duo marsupials drops a heavenly disco-house track with a chunky beat and a beautifully loading string line, called just like heaven. both sun-drenched, with vibes melting down slowly onto the sand like the butter under the hot sun! flip-side could be the sunset side with stereo 12 da flow closing your afternoon session or, why not, kicking things off for a late night party! with a deep and soulful take on an ashford & simpson s classic track, this one can stick in your mind for long, while napoleon s luv passage has a hypnotic process with repetitive loops and fat kicks that put you in a sweet nu-disco trance. but, beware, there s a break waiting for you!

firstly, a huge thanks to everyone for supporting us so far - 2016 has seen the dext label continuing to go from strength to strength, with our callahan and mella dee ep s backed with remixes from hodge and endian which have been been super well received. now for the third ep of the year from our resident comedian bodyjack. bodyjack has been an integral part of dext since he remixed dubspeeka on our 2nd release and headlined our label takeover of privilege in ibiza last summer. we are very excited about his return to the label with this 3-tracker (and our first full solo artist ep!), and we think you re going to dig this... the title track cobra effect is one of those tracks you aren t going forget in a hurry. intense and brooding, we are hard-pushed to categorise this, but layers of sinister bass coupled with dark, driving snares and eerie synth work culminate masterfully, making this the perfect dext track. hydra effect lifts the vibe with a straight up peak-time house jam with a sting in the tail. a raw-but-infectious bassline winds along under bodyjack s signature killer drum programming, before blasting off with something you aren t going to expect. rounding the ep off is slowine effect: a proper dancehall workout (reminiscent of bodyjack s earlier work) and a real cross-genre party starter. the most upbeat of the 3 tracks, this again takes all the elements of what we love about the music from the past and cleverly works them into something special for the rave. and that s not all for bodyjack on dext this year - he will be back with a one-off ltd record called -hot shot-, backed with a very special remixer...but more on that soon!

work them records founder spencer parker presents the first in a trilogy of releases as brotherhood. the brotherhood moniker was originally coined as a way of differentiating parker s berghain appearances from his panorama bar appearances, hence why this series under the alias will be concentrated on techno. thudding kicks and eerie atmospherics pave the way in chapter one - a physical techno number that warps and changes throughout its almost 8 minute duration. chapter two then employs a twisted melody that works alongside a remorseless low-end throb until chapter three concludes the package with punchy percussion and echoing effect
strength lies in calmness – and vice versa. marcel fengler returns on imf and offers three new inspirited musical pieces that protrude from the club context just as well as cater for your home stereo, picking up on the diverse musical moods defined by his debut album fokus (ostgut ton, 2013) while concentrating on intertwining sound aesthetics. with “kyu” laid out on the a-side, this new 12- starts off with a delicate yet muscular floor-pleaser – its subtle 4/4 rhythm is counteracted by lush claps on 2/4, but the true finesse comes in form of its varying rhythmic details, crisp hi-hats and underlying, subtle melodies, most notably the twirling organ trills, sustained synth pads and alienated shout outs. “shitau” on b1 picks up on these introverted and adoring musical moods with more organic bell percussion and swelling synth layers adding a more cinematic touch to the complex rhythm patterns—then pausing for a short dreamy break, gaining speed again before culminating in a grand finale. “zen” follows up with intimate string arrangements until fengler varies the tone and tempo with tribalist percussion and a lush kick drum. this ep is an ideal companion, whether you re pruning your bonsai or branching out a club set.

following the release of 2015’s animistas album on mindtours, steevio returns with the fourth and final volume in the modular techno series after starting the project in 2012. initially conceived as he moved his studio practice towards a purely outboard, analogue, modular synthesiser set up, the modular techno series has charted the development of steevio’s exploration of this working practice both on record and on stage. the work involved in live appearances across the uk and europe over the past four years have fed into the creative process, with rehearsals for sets often yielding the material that has ended up on vinyl. volume 4 is arguably the darkest instalment in the series to date, dealing in a strict economy of minimalist rhythms and off-key melodic touches while still easily identified as the unmistakable tones and distinctive grooves of steevio. in the grand tradition of techno as visionary music, the dystopian tone that lingers throughout modular techno vol 4 points to a future of uncertainty, but this is far from nihilistic music, always within the darkness remains a glimmer of hope.

tetsumasa’s debut ep “asa” on his own saidan label. solid sounds between savage broken rhythms somehow feels urban, flat and texturally dry. various sound components such as dub, noise, bass music and ambient are mixed within and thus creating unique sound world. it is expectable from his irregular beats that one of his music roots is abstract hip hop. “asa ep” has a remix from mogano, the owner of berlin label arboretum. tetsumasa doesn’t need a concept. this is his own sound pieces you can experience a variety of sensations.
